Sam Hill’s 2008 Iron Horse Sunday, reborn as a modern restomod
In 2008, Sam Hill raced an Iron Horse Sunday. Seventeen years later, Dan Roberts has completely redesigned it. Not restored — redesigned, like a car restomod where modern mechanics wear a 1960s body.
A clean sheet
Dan Roberts is an independent bike engineer working with Frameworks, Raw Mountain Bikes and Selwyn. He rebuilt the Sunday from scratch: modern downhill geometry in size L, revised kinematics, UDH standard, common bearings, external cable routing. The result could line up at a race today, yet it’s recognisable at first glance.
A business card… and a gift
Officially, it’s a business card: he wanted something better than handing out flyers at Eurobike. Unofficially, it’s a gift to his 17-year-old self, who owned an Iron Horse and sold it. And Sam Hill saw it. He even sat on it.
