Inside Trek: 4 days at Waterloo HQ for the brand’s 50th anniversary
Trek is turning 50 and invited En Roue Libre to Waterloo, Wisconsin, to go behind the scenes. First episode of a five-part series: a tour of the headquarters, from 1976 relics to the secret room of the Mad One concept.

Half a century of history
In the lobby, the relics tell the story: the 1976 TX200, OCLV bikes, a late-90s DH bike, Emil Johansson’s bike. Then behind the scenes: the prototyping centre with its CNC machines and aluminium Madone and cross-country protos, the test lab and its giant treadmill (yes, they moulded the Roubaix cobbles), and the Project One division with its paint booths.
The 50th celebrations
The open house evening, the ceremony with Bevil Hogg, John Burke and Helen Burke (93), and finally the Trek 100, the charity ride that has raised over $22 million for childhood cancer research since 1990.
