The pedal you never imagined you’d see: the Outlier Pendulum
Some pedals look more radical than others. These are definitely the most extreme of their kind.
Young Canadian brand Outlier is making a striking entrance into the mountain bike components market with two flat pedals of a completely new design: the Void and Pendulum models.
These pedals, which have no central axle, push the limits of traditional designs.
Their structure is limited to the outer edge of a conventional design, allowing a thinner profile and unique ergonomic benefits

A design built for performance
The Pendulum stands out with its offset platform, lowering the rider’s centre of gravity by 6 mm, with an estimated effect of 17 mm or more on stability.
This design changes the rider’s position, potentially requiring an adjustment of saddle height, or even the use of shorter cranks.
Both pedals feature oil-filled sealed bearings for smooth, long-lasting rotation.
The pedals’ perimeter structure gives a unique feeling of support, similar to a very concave pedal, without a thick leading edge.
Looks and local manufacturing
Made in Calgary, Alberta, the Pendulum pedals are available in black or silver anodising.
Each pair includes four spare pins, adding to their durability on the trail.
While the idea of axle-less pedals isn’t entirely new (Tioga MT-ZERO, Tatze, Momentum FlyPaper), Outlier stands out with an elegant and functional execution.
Their design looks promising for delivering a new riding experience, especially thanks to the Pendulum’s offset design.

The pedals are available for pre-order on Outlier’s website, with delivery expected in the first quarter of 2025.
